Cordran Information:

What is Cordran?

Cordran contains a corticosteroid called flurandrenolide. This medication works by relieving itching, swelling and redness associated with a variety of skin conditions that respond to corticosteroids. These include allergic reactions, eczema and psoriasis. Cordran tape is more specifically used to treat dry, scaly localized lesions.

How do I use Cordran?

How you use Cordran will depend on what type you are prescribed. Follow your doctor’s or pharmacist’s instructions for your Cordran product. In most cases, the skin will need to be cleansed and dried before use. When using Cordran tape, a germicidal soap is recommended to prevent bacterial growth underneath the tape which is normally worn for 12 hours at a time. The cream and lotion are usually applied 2 to 3 times daily. If your condition doesn’t improve within 2 weeks, your diagnosis should be reassessed.

Before using Cordran, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Cordran or have sensitivities to corticosteroids.
  • You have an infection or signs of an infection.
  • You have cataracts or glaucoma.
  • You have a circulation disorder or an immune disorder.
  • You have diabetes.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What are the possible side effects of taking Cordran?

Possible side effects from using Cordran include itching, stinging, burning, irritation or dryness at the site of application. If any of these side effects are severe or if they do not go away, tell your doctor as soon as possible. More serious side effects that should be addressed immediately include stretch marks, acne, bumps, thinning or discolored skin, excessive hair growth, unusual fatigue, weight loss, vision problems, headache and swelling feet or ankles.

What if I forget to take a dose of Cordran?

If you forget to apply Cordran, apply it as soon as your remember. It it’s almost time to apply your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular routine. Do not use extra Cordran or consecutive doses in order to compensate for a missed dose.

How do I store Cordran?

Store Cordran tightly closed in the container it came in. Keep the medication at room temperature and keep it out of direct light. Keep your medication out of reach of children and pets.

What happens if I overdose on Cordran?

The possibility of Cordran overdose is unlikely if used properly. If used in the long-term, corticosteroids like Cordran can weaken the immune system or result in Cushing’s syndrome. Symptoms include signs of infection, high blood pressure, increased fat in the face or around the belly, weakness, stretch marks and irregular menstruation. If someone accidentally ingests Cordran, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.

Warnings

Cordran is for topical use only. Chronic use of corticosteroids can weaken the immune system. See the overdose section for more information.
