Desoximetasone Information:

What is desoximetasone?

Desoximetasone is a topical corticosteroid used to relieve the inflammation, redness, and itching that accompanies different skin conditions. It works by triggering natural anti-inflammatory substances in the body.

How do I take desoximetasone?

Desoximetasone is a topical medication dispensed as a gel, ointment, or cream that is usually applied twice daily. To use, apply a thin film to the affected area and gently massage it into the skin. Do not cover the site unless directed to do so by your doctor. Wash your hands after applying. If this medication is applied to a child’s diapered skin, do not use plastic pants.

Before taking desoximetasone, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to desoximetasone or any of the ingredients in the medication
  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
  • You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
  • You are taking medications that suppress the immune system
  • You have, or have had, diabetes, circulation problems, Cushing's syndrome, HIV/AIDS, or SCID.

What are the possible side effects of taking desoximetasone?

Some people have reported side effects after using desoximetasone. Mild symptoms include burning, itching, irritation, redness, or dry skin at the application site, pimples, swelling, redness, or pus filled blisters on the skin around hair follicles, tiny red bumps around the mouth and unwanted hair. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your doctor.

Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (hives, itching, peeling or blistered skin; swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; fever; hoarseness; difficulty breathing or swallowing); redness, swelling, oozing pus, or other signs of skin infection at the application site; severe rash.

What if I forget to take a dose of desoximetasone?

If you forget to apply your scheduled dose of desoximetasone, apply it as soon as your remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the amount used or change the schedule to make up for a missed dose.

How do I store desoximetasone?

Keep desoximetasone tightly sealed in its original packaging, out of the reach of children and away from extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow this medication to freeze. Dispose of any unused amount according to the instructions of your pharmacist.

What happens if I overdose on desoximetasone?

Desoximetasone is for topical use only. If it is accidently ingested, or if too much is applied over an extended period, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.

Warnings

Desoximetasone is for topical application only. Do not let this medication come in contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth. This medication may cause delayed weight gain or slowed growth in children. Do not cover the treated area unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Brand Names

Desoximetasone is the generic name for a corticosteroid that is also marketed as Topicort. However, do not substitute the name brand for the generic without a doctor’s approval. At HelpRx, our desoximetasone coupons can bring savings of as much as 75% to this medication when presented at your favorite pharmacy. In addition to these savings, a desoximetasone discount card is also available on our site that delivers the same reductions of up to 75% on hundreds of other generic and name brand drugs.
