Digitek is used in the treatment of heart failure and abnormal heart rhythms, known as arrhythmias. This medication helps the heart work better and more efficiently, while also controlling your heart rate.
Digitek can also be used in the treatment of heart pain, and can be used after a heart attack. This medication may also be prescribed for other problems. You should talk to your doctor about any risks associated with using Digitek to treat your condition.
This medications comes in the form of tablets, capsules, or liquid. Each kind should be taken by mouth, usually once per day. The liquid form will come with a dropper to measure out the proper dose. It is important to stick to the same brand of this drug, as different brands will have different amounts of active ingredients, therefore changing your dose.
You should always for the instructions laid out on the prescription label and those given by your doctor. Ask your doctor if you don’t understand any of these directions. Never take more or less of this drug than prescribed.
Digitek will help in the treatment and control of your condition but it will not cure it. Even if you feel better, continue to take Digitek. Do not stop taking this medication without first speaking to your doctor.
Before using Digitek , tell your doctor if:

You are allergic to digoxin, digitoxin, or any other drugs.

You are taking any other prescription and nonprescription medications, especially antacids, antibiotics, calcium, corticosteroids, diuretics ('water pills'), other medications for heart disease, thyroid medications, and vitamins.

You have or have ever had thyroid problems, heart arrhythmias, cancer, or kidney disease.

You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking digoxin, call your doctor.

Talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits of taking this medication if you are 65 years of age or older. Older adults should usually receive low doses of digoxin because higher doses may cause serious side effects.
- Remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this medication.

You are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking digoxin.

You should know that this medication may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.
Common side effects include:

dizziness or lightheadedness

drowsiness

vision changes (blurred or yellow)

rash

irregular heartbeat
Less common, but more serious side effects include:

Vomiting

Upset stomach

diarrhea

loss of appetite

difficulty breathing

swelling of the feet or hands

unusual weight gain
As soon as you remember you’ve missed a dose, try to take it. If it is close to the next dose however, skip the missed dose and continue on a normal schedule. Never take a double dose to make up for missing one.
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).
In case of overdose, call your local poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, call local emergency services at 911.
Warnings
Your doctor may tell you that you need to go on a low-sodium diet and take a potassium supplement. In this case, follow all diet instructions carefully.
Keep all of your appointments while on Digitek. These appointments are meant to monitor your body’s response to Digitek. You may need electrocardiograms (EKGs) and blood tests periodically, and your dose may need to be adjusted. You may also be asked to check your heart rate. If you do not know how to take your pulse, ask a doctor before beginning Digitek. If it is faster or slower than normal, call your doctor.
No one else should ever take your medication.
