What is Micardis?

Micardis is the brand name of the drug telmisartan and is administered in the treatment of hypertension. It may also be prescribed to treat diabetic neuropathy or to decrease the risk of a stroke, heart attack, or cardiovascular disease in those 55 and older. Micardis is an angiotensin II receptor agonist that works by limiting the effects of substances in the body that tighten blood vessels and restrict blood flow.

How do I take Micardis?

The Micardis drug is dispensed in tablet form and taken orally, once a day and with or without food. Your doctor may prescribe a low-sodium diet; however, do not use salt substitutes that contain potassium without obtaining medical permission. Micardis is not a curative; continue to take this medication even if you feel well.

Before taking Micardis, tell your doctor if:
