What is Eurax?

Eurax is the drug crotamiton administered as a topical cream or lotion. It is an anti-parasitic medication prescribed to kill skin infestations of the live parasites and their eggs that cause scabies. It may also be used to reduce itching caused by certain skin conditions.

How do I take Eurax?

Eurax is dispensed as a lotion or a cream for topical application. If Eurax is prescribed to treat scabies, bathe and completely dry your skin before applying the initial dose. Massage a thin layer of the medication over the entire body until it is absorbed, starting with the chin and working downwards to the soles of the feet, including between fingers and toes and in any skin folds. Leave the medication in place for 24-hours, then apply the second treatment without bathing. Thoroughly wash off the medicine after this layer has been on for 48 hours. Wash your bedding. Contact your doctor if your condition has not improved in two to four weeks. Wash all clothing, bedding, and grooming aids in hot water using a strong cleanser. If you have had intimate contact with someone, that individual may require treatment. If Eurax is being used for non-scabies itching, follow the instructions that accompanied the prescription.

Before taking Eurax, tell your doctor if:

• You are allergic to crotamiton or any of the ingredients in Eurax
• You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
• You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
• You are younger than 18
• You have a partner with whom you have had sexual contact
• Side Effects

What are the possible side effects of taking Eurax?

Some people have reported side effects after using Eurax. Less severe symptoms include a new rash or mild itching. However, if these conditions persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider. Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include signs of an allergic reaction (rash, hives, itching, peeling or blistered skin; swelling of the face, mouth, lips, throat, or tongue; fever; hoarseness; difficulty breathing or swallowing), or severe irritation, stinging, or burning.

• Missed Dose

What if I forget to take a dose of Eurax?

Both doses of Eurax must be applied within the prescribed 24-hour period. If you miss the second application, contact your doctor; you may need to start the treatment over.

• Storage

How do I store Eurax?

Keep Eurax tightly sealed in its original container, out of the reach of children and away from extremes of temperature and humidity. Do not allow the lotion or the cream to freeze. Dispose of any unused medication according to the instructions of your pharmacist.

• Overdose

What happens if I overdose on Eurax?

The Eurax drug is for topical application only. If it has been accidentally ingested, or has come in contact with the eyes, notify the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.

Warnings

Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while using Eurax. Do not engage in sexual activity while undergoing treatment and until the infestation has cleared. Wash all clothing, bed linens, and grooming aids with hot water and a strong cleanser to prevent reinfestation. Do not share personal items including clothes, shoes, hats, combs, brushes, makeup, and bedding.
