Exforge Hct Information:

What is Exforge HCT?

Exforge HCT is a combination drug containing amlodipine, valsartan, and hydrochlorothiazide. Amlodipine and valsartan help relax the blood vessels to improve blood flow, while hydrochlorothiazide helps the body get rid of excess salt and water. Together, these medications help treat high blood pressure (hypertension).

How do I take Exforge HCT?

The Exforge HCT drug comes as a tablet that is taken by mouth, usually once daily with or without food. Try to take this drug at the same time every day to help you remember. Because this medication can increase your need to urinate, it is best to take it at least 4 hours before bed.

Before taking Exforge HCT, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to any of the medications in this combination product, or if you have any other allergies
  • You have difficulty producing urine (anuria)
  • You have a history of kidney or liver disease
  • You have an untreated mineral imbalance or have experienced a severe loss of body water or minerals

What are the possible side effects of taking Exforge HCT?

Exforge HCT can sometimes cause dizziness, lightheadedness, and mild headaches. These minor side effects should not be a cause for concern, but if they persist or get worse, talk to your doctor. Less common but more serious side effects include moderate to severe dehydration, joint pain, swelling of the hands and feet, eye pain, vision changes, muscle weakness, or an irregular heartbeat. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects.

What if I forget to take a dose of Exforge HCT?

As with many prescription drugs, you should not double your dose of Exforge HCT to catch up. Take a missed dose as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose, in which case you should skip the missed dose and continue with your normal dosing schedule.

How do I store Exforge HCT?

Exforge HCT is best kept at a room temperature of about 77 degrees Fahrenheit, though temporary storage at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees is acceptable.
