What is Flarex?
Flarex is a corticosteroid eye drop medication that helps minimize eye redness, irritation, and painful swelling. The main active drug in Flarex is fluorometholone acetate, and it works by minimizing the body’s natural chemical response to irritants such as allergens. It also prevents the accumulation and deposition of tissues that trigger eye inflammation.
How do I take Flarex?
Wash your hands before touching Flarex and your eye to minimize possible contamination. Grab the eyedropper and remove the cap, and then tilt your head back to apply 2 drops into each eye. During the initial start of your treatment, apply 2 drops every 4 hours. After a couple of days, apply 2 drops 2-4 times daily. If you do not see improvement within 2 days, contact your doctor for further instructions on how to continue treatment. You should not use Flarex for more than 10 days.
Before taking Flarex, tell your doctor if:
- You wear contact lenses
- You have recently used corticosteroids
- You are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
- You are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed
- You have any food or drug allergies
What are the possible side effects of taking Flarex?
Common side effects reported by patients taking Flarex include: eye discomfort, blurred vision, and eye irritation. Taking corticosteroids for prolonged periods can cause optic never damage, changes in vision, glaucoma, thinning of the cornea, other serious conditions that can lead to blindness.
What if I forget to take a dose of Flarex?
If you forget to apply Flarex to your eyes, skip the missed dose and remember to apply it as soon as you remember. Do not apply more medication to the eye to make up for a missed dose, as this can lead to unwanted side effects.
How do I store Flarex?
Store Flarex in a safe storage cabinet in a room with a temperature between 67 and 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep this medication out of reach of children and protect it from extreme heat or moisture.
What happens if I overdose on Flarex?
An overdose of Flarex can cause painful eye irritation. Contact you doctor or call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 if you ingest Flarex.
