What is Fosinopril?

 

Fosinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that is used alone or in combination with other medication to treat high blood pressure. This medication works by decreasing the levels of certain chemicals that cause the blood vessels to tighten. This promotes greater blood flow and helps the heart to pump blood more efficiently.

How do I use Fosinopril?

 

Fosinopril comes in tablet form to be taken orally. This medication is typically prescribed to be taken 1 or 2 times per day. Follow your doctor’s instructions for taking this medication.

 

If you are taking antacids, be sure to take them 2 hours before or after you take Fosinopril.

Before using Fosinopril, tell your doctor if:

 
  • you are allergic to Fosinopril or any other medications

  • you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or supplements

  • you have diabetes

  • you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding

  • you have diabetes and you are taking aliskiren

  • you are on dialysis

  • you have or have ever had lupus, heart failure, high blood pressure, or scleroderma

  • you have liver disease or kidney disease

What are the possible side effects of using Fosinopril?

 

Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms and if they do not go away:

  • headache or dizziness

  • cough

  • upset stomach

  • vomiting

  • diarrhea

  • headache

  • fatigue or weakness

Contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms:

  • lightheadedness or fainting

  • difficulty breathing

  • difficulty swallowing

  • swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs

  • hoarseness

  • yellowing of the eyes or skin

  • signs of infection including fever, chills, sore throat

What if I forget to use a dose of Fosinopril?

 

Take your missed dose of Fosinopril as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

How do I store Fosinopril?

 

Store this medication tightly closed when not in use. Store it at room temperature and keep away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this medication out of reach of children and away from pets. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.

What happens if I overdose on Fosinopril?

 

In case of overdose, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) to find out what to do, or seek immediate medical attention.
