Isosorbide Mononitrate Er Information:

Isosorbide Mononitrate ER (Extended Release) is a generic, nitrate drug and it is an extended-release tablet that is used to prevent angina attacks (chest pain). This drug works by widening blood vessels, which makes it easier for blood to flow through the blood vessels, and it also makes it easier for the heart to pump.

 

Isosorbide Mononitrate ER tablets should be taken orally exactly as directed by your doctor. Do not crush, chew, or break an extended-release tablet. Swallow the Isosorbide Mononitrate ER whole.

 

Before using Isosorbide Mononitrate ER, tell your doctor if:

 
  • you are allergic to Isosorbide Mononitrate ER or any other medications

  • you are taking medicine to treat erectile dysfunction or pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH)

  • you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, or supplements

  • you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding

  • you have low blood pressure

  • you are on a low-salt diet

  • you take a diuretic (“water pill”)

  • you have congestive heart failure

  • you have kidney disease or you are on dialysis

Contact your doctor if you experience these symptoms and if they do not go away:

  • absence of or decrease in body movement

  • arm, back, or jaw pain, or any body pain

  • black, tarry, or bloody stool

  • bladder pain

  • bleeding gums

  • blood in the urine, painful urination, frequent or decreased urination

  • blurred vision

  • burning while urinating

  • chest pain or discomfort

  • fever, chills or cold sweats

  • confusion or nervousness

  • convulsions

  • cough

  • diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting

  • difficulty breathing

  • dilated neck veins

  • dizziness

  • dry mouth or increased thirst

  • ear congestion

  • rapid, pounding, or extra heartbeats

  • fainting

  • flu-like symptoms

  • headache or lightheadedness

  • itching, pain, redness, or swelling on the leg

  • joint pain, stiffness, or swelling

  • loss of appetite or voice

  • lower back, side, or stomach pain

  • nasal congestion

  • numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips

  • tremors

  • weakness

  • weight gain

 

Contact your doctor immediately or seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms:

  • blurred vision, double vision, or loss of vision

  • change in the ability to see colors or disturbed color perception

  • cold, clammy skin

  • severe headache or dizziness

  • vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds

  • loss of consciousness

  • night blindness

  • overbright appearance of lights

  • paralysis

  • sensation of spinning

  • tunnel vision

Take your missed dose of Isosorbide Mononitrate ER as soon as your remember to take it, unless it is almost time for the next dose. If this is the case, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dose schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

 

Store this medication tightly closed when not in use. Store it at room temperature and keep away from excess moisture and heat. Keep this medication out of reach of children and away from pets. Properly dispose of any expired or unnecessary medication.

 

In case of overdose, call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) to find out what to do, or seek immediate medical attention.

 

Warnings

 
  • Do not use isosorbide mononitrate if you are taking medicine to treat erectile dysfunction or pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), as serious, life-threatening side effects may occur.

  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly as doing so could result in a severe angina attack.

  • Do not take this drug if you have early signs of a heart attack including: chest pain, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating

  • Do not let anyone else use your medication.
  • This drug can cause severe headaches when you first start taking it. The headaches typically become less severe as you continue to take the medication. Tell your doctor if you have headaches and they continue or worsen after you have been using this medication for several weeks
