• What
This medicine is an adrenergic receptor blocker used to treat high blood pressure. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines, such as diuretics. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
• How
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. TAKE THIS MEDICINE by mouth with or without food. DO NOT SUDDENLY STOP TAKING THIS MEDICINE without checking with your doctor. Suddenly stopping this medicine may result in chest pain or temporary symptoms, such as shaking, sweating, headache, irregular heartbeat, or general unwell feeling. If your doctor decides that you should stop taking this medicine, your dosage should be reduced over a period of 1 to 2 weeks and you should be carefully monitored. STORE THIS MEDICINE between 36 and 86 degrees F (2 and 30 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
• Precautions
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking beta-agonists (eg, albuterol), beta-blockers (eg, metoprolol), calcium channel blockers (eg, verapamil), tricyclic antidepressants (eg, imipramine), cimetidine, digoxin, general anesthetics (eg, halothane), or nitroglycerin. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including diabetes, an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma), lung or breathing problems (eg, bronchitis, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease / COPD), kidney problems, liver problems, thyroid problems, heart problems (eg, first-degree heart block, slow or irregular heartbeat, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, sick sinus syndrome), low blood pressure, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have had a recent heart attack; if you are scheduled to have surgery, including cataract surgery; if you have recently had surgery; or if you have a history of heart failure. USE OF THIS MEDICINE IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a history of asthma, obstructive airway disease, or other breathing disorders; moderate to severe first-degree heart block after a heart attack; heart failure; a certain abnormal electrocardiogram (ECG) (prolonged QT interval); shock caused by serious heart problems; severe slow heartbeat; severe low blood pressure; or second- or third-degree (complete) heart block. • Side Effects
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking this medicine include dizziness, indigestion, lightheadedness, nausea, stuffy nose, temporary tingling of the scalp, or unusual tiredness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain; dark urine; decreased sexual ability; fainting; fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat; fever, chills, or persistent sore throat; mental or mood changes (eg, depression); muscle pain or tenderness; pale stools; persistent cough; persistent loss of appetite; right upper stomach pain; severe or persistent dizziness; shortness of breath; swelling of the hands or feet; unusual bruising or bleeding; unexplained or sudden weight gain; weakness; wheezing; vision changes; or yellowing of the skin or eyes. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. • Overdose
IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include fainting; seizures; severe dizziness or lightheadedness, especially upon standing; shortness of breath; or slow heartbeat.
