Lotensin Hct Information:

What is Lotensin HCT?

Lotensin HCT is a combination of two medications, benazepril and hydrochlorothiazide, that is prescribed to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Benazepril is an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor; it relaxes arteries and veins to increase blood and oxygen supplies to the heart by blocking those substances that tighten them. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that stimulates water and salt removal by the kidneys.

How do I take Lotensin HCT?

The Lotensin HCT drug is dispensed as a pill that is taken orally, with water and without regard to food. Typical dosing is once a day; however, the actual regimen will be determined by a doctor depending on the strength of the medication and the medical profile of the patient. Follow the prescription exactly, and do not crush or chew the tablet.

Before taking Lotensin HCT, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to benazepril, hydrochlorothiazide, ACE inhibitors, sulfa drugs, or any ingredients in the Lotensin HCT drug

  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child

  • You are taking any medications, vitamins, or supplements

  • You have diabetes

What if I forget to take a dose of Lotensin HCT?

If you miss a scheduled dose of Lotensin HCT, take it as soon as you remember and are able. If the time is near for the next dose, though, skip the one missed and return to the regular schedule. Do not take more than the prescribed amount or increase the frequency of dosing to make up for a missed pill
