What is Mobic?

Mobic (meloxicam) is an NSAID medication (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), specifically an enolic acid NSAID that is an oxicam derivative. It works by reducing hormones responsible for causing pain and inflammation in the body in certain kinds of arthritis. Mobic uses include treating osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis (either adult or juvenile RA), but your doctor may prescribe it for other things.

• Side Effects

What are the possible side effects of taking Mobic?

Some Mobic side effects can be severe and require immediate medical attention. These include but are not limited to: swelling in the face or lips, swelling in the tongue or throat, hives or itching, skin pain followed by a spreading red or purple rash with blistering and peeling, skin rashes, jaundice, rapid weight gain, swelling in the arms or legs, a burning sensation in your eyes, problems with your vision, problems with balance or coordination, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, slurred speech,  severe tingling or numbness, muscle weakness, unusual bruising, chest pain, loss of appetite, upper stomach pain, nausea and vomiting (especially if vomit looks like coffee grounds), coughing up blood, difficulty urinating, dark urine,  clay-colored or tar-colored stool, bloody stool.

The following Mobic drug side effects only need medical attention if they persist or get worse: mild skin rash, runny/stuffy nose with sore throat, headache or dizziness, anxiety, bloating or gassiness, upset stomach, diarrhea.

• Missed Dose

What if I forget to take a dose of Mobic?

Unless it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, you may take your dose as soon as you remember it. Otherwise, skip the missed dose. Always maintain your regular dosing schedule and never take extra Mobic to make up for a missed dose.

This medication may also be prescribed on an as-needed basis, in which case, you do not have a dosing schedule to miss. Remember to only take as much medication as instructed; you may need to note when you've taken medication so as to not take too much.

How do I store Mobic?

Keep Mobic pills or oral solution out of the reach of children, especially those 2 years old or younger. Store at room temperature away from light, and avoid storing this medicine in a location with excess heat or moisture (e.g., a bathroom).

• Overdose

What happens if I overdose on Mobic?

Symptoms of an overdose include: seizures, coma or fainting, severe or unusual drowsiness or dizziness, fever, shallow breathing, nausea and vomiting, coughing up blood (especially if it looks like coffee grounds), tar-colored or bloody stool. Seek immediate emergency medical assistance if you suspect overdose, or call your local poison control center.

Warnings

The risk of severe, adverse gastrointestinal reactions (e.g., perforation of the stomach/intestines, ulceration, bleeding) increases while taking NSAIDs, especially over time and among the elderly. Avoid drinking alcohol, as it increases your risk of stomach bleeding. These reactions may occur without warning symptoms.

As an NSAID, Mobic medicine can also increase the risk of certain adverse cardiovascular events (e.g., myocardial infarction, stroke), which may be fatal.

The Mobic drug can delay ovulation, so discuss alternative pain reliever choices if you are trying to become pregnant, especially if you're undergoing fertility treatments.
