What is Olux?

Olux is a corticosteroid foam that reduces plaque psoriasis and dermatitis of the scalp and other parts of the body. The active ingredient in Olux, clobetasol propionate, works by reducing redness, swelling, and itching associated with plaque psoriasis and dermatitis. This foam medication is applied directly to the affected area of the body, excluding the face, underarms, or groin areas, unless directed by your doctor.

How do I take Olux? 

Patients should apply a thin layer of Olux foam by massaging it into the affected area twice a day, morning and evening, avoiding the face, under arms, groin areas, or skin fold areas. The Olux foam can should be turned upside down and dispensed into the cap, and not directly on the hands because the foam will begin to melt on skin contact. If applying Olux on the scalp, patients should move hair away so that the foam can be applied directly to the affected area. It is important to wash your hands after using Olux, and wash away any remaining medication in the cap.

Some of the common side effects patients experience while taking Olux foam are burning, dryness, and other reactions at the application site. What if I forget a dose of Olux? 

If patients miss a dose of Olux, apply the medication during the next scheduled dose. It is important that patients do not double up on a dose to catch up, as this can increase the risk for side effects.

How do I store Olux? 

Keep the Olux can upright with the cap on when it is not in use. Patients should store Olux at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit. The contents inside the can are extremely flammable, so make sure to keep it away from any fire or hazardous conditions. Do not puncture the can, even if it is empty. It is important to keep this and other prescription medications out reach of children and pets.

What if I overdose on Olux? 

Olux can be extremely harmful if swallowed. If you or a child ingests Olux foam by accident, contact Poison Control immediately at 1-800-222-1222 or call 911 to get medical assistance.

Olux is only intended for use on the scalp and certain affected body parts. Do not apply Olux to your face, underarms, groin areas, or areas with skin folds. Olux foam is extremely flammable, so do not smoke during or immediately following application. Women who are pregnant should not use Olux as it can cause damage to the fetus.
