Sorilux Information:
What is Sorilux?
Sorilux is a brand name for the synthetic vitamin D3 derivative calcipotriene, dispensed as a foam, and prescribed to treat the symptoms associated with psoriasis, a skin disease marked by red, scaly patches. It works by inhibiting the production of skin cells.
How do I take Sorilux?
Sorilux is usually applied twice a day. Clean and dry the affected area, shake the can vigorously, and apply a light layer of the foam, gently massaging it into the skin. Wash your hands thoroughly after applying the medication. Do not allow it to come in contact with the face or eyes. Sorilux is not for internal, intravaginal, or ophthalmic use.
Before taking Sorilux, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to calcipotriene or any of the ingredients in Sorilux
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You are using other topical psoriasis medications, or are undergoing phototherapy to treat psoriasis
- You have hypercalcemia
- You have any existing medical conditions
What are the possible side effects of taking Sorilux?
Some individuals have reported side effects after using Sorilux. Mild symptoms include worsening of psoriasis, redness, itching, tingling, stinging, or burning skin, or dry skin. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your doctor.
Severe side effects requiring immediate medical attention include a rash or irritation of the application zone or its surrounding area.
What if I forget to take a dose of Sorilux?
If you forget a scheduled application of Sorilux, apply it so as soon as you remember and are able. However, if the time is near for the next scheduled dose, forego the one missed and resume the regular routine. Do not increase the amount used or change the application frequency to make up for one that was missed.
How do I store Sorilux?
Keep Sorilux in its original container, away from the extremes of temperature and out of the reach of children. Do not allow the canister to freeze. Dispose of any unused or expired amount according to the instructions of a pharmacist. Do not incinerate the Sorilux canister.
What happens if I overdose on Sorilux?
Sorilux is for topical use only. If it is accidentally ingested, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or has lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911.
Warnings
Sorilux is for topical use only. Contact your doctor if you become pregnant while using this medication. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight; plan to wear protective clothing when outside while using Sorilux. The foam is flammable; do not use near an open flame.
