• What

Spritam is an anti-epileptic medication intended to help treat the onset of seizures in adults and children 4 and older. Its action is not fully understood, but it has shown efficacy as an adjunct drug in controlling seizure onset. Some physicians have also used the levetiracetam contained within to treat tonic-clonic seizures in adults and children 6 and older and myoclonic seizures in adults and children 12 and older.

• How

Take the drug Spritam once every 12 to 24 hours, depending on the directions given to you by your doctor. Be sure to take the medicine at the same time every day with or without food. • Side Effects

The most common side effects of taking the drug Spritam may include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, weakness, aggressiveness, irritability, loss of appetite, stuffy nose, or infection. Contact your physician as soon as possible if you notice unusual changes in mood or behavior, confusion, hallucinations, loss of balance or coordination, extreme drowsiness, weakness, or tiredness, bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness, problems with walking or movement, any skin rash, severe skin reaction, or signs of infection.

• Missed Dosage

Take the dose of Spritam that you missed as soon as you can remember to take it. If it is already nearly time for your next dose, skip the dose that you were unable to take. Never take extra medicine to make up for a dose that you couldn't take.

• Storage

Store Spritam in a location that stays at room temperature and keep the medication away from moisture, heat, and light. These elements may change the chemical structure and efficacy of the medicine.

Warnings

Some patients who take Spritam may have thoughts of suicide. Let your doctor know if you feel symptoms of depression or have suicidal thoughts during the first several weeks of treatment.
