Tekturna Information:

What is Tekturna?

Tekturna contains an antihypertensive medication called aliskiren that works by inhibiting the renin enzyme. Renin is a necessary enzyme for the production of angiotensin II, a substance that causes vasoconstriction and raises arterial blood pressure. By blocking renin, this medication is able to stop the constriction of blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily which reduces blood pressure.

How do I take Tekturna?

Tekturna is normally taken once a day at the same time every day. You can take your medication with or without food, but if you choose to take it with food, you should continue to take it with food every time. Your doctor will prescribe the right size and frequency of dosage for you. Follow your doctor’s instructions. Your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of Tekturna and increase your dosage of after two weeks.

Before taking Tekturna, tell your doctor if:

  • You have diabetes and are taking diabetes medications.
  • You have ever had a seizure.
  • You have ever had a heart attack or heart failure.
  • You have kidney disease.
  • You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or you’re breastfeeding.
  • You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medications or vitamins or supplements, especially NSAIDs, diuretics, diabetes medications, ACE inhibitors or any other blood pressure medications, potassium supplements, antifungals, cyclosporine, or any medications for heart disease or heart failure.
  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Tekturna.

What are the possible side effects of taking Tekturna?

Possible side effects from taking Tekturna include dizziness, cough, diarrhea, fatigue, and feeling lightheaded. If any of these side effects are severe, tell your doctor. Other more serious side effects that should be reported immediately include fainting, muscle weakness, slow or irregular heartbeat, changes in urination and allergic reaction.

What if I forget to take a dose of Tekturna?

If you forget to take a dose of Tekturna, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular regimen. Do not take a double dose of Tekturna to make up for a missed one.

How do I store Tekturna?

Keep Tekturna in an airtight container and protect it from light and moisture. Store this medication at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit and keep it out of reach of children and pets.

What happens if I overdose on Tekturna?

Signs of overdose on Tekturna may include fainting, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea and severely low blood pressure. If you think you or someone you know has overdose on Tekturna, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim is unresponsive or not breathing, call 911.
