What is Tekturna HCT?
Tekturna HCT is the drug combination aliskiren/hydrochlorothiazide and is prescribed to treat hypertension. Aliskiren is a renin inhibitor that loosens blood vessels by decreasing chemicals in the body that cause blood vessels to tighten; hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic that works by helping the kidneys eliminate unneeded water and salt from the body.
How do I take Tekturna HCT?
Tekturna HCT is administered in tablet form and taken orally with water and without regard to food. The dosage strength and frequency of dosing will be determined by your healthcare provider. Follow the dosing instructions exactly and do not take more or less than the prescribed amount. Swallow the tablet whole, do not crush or chew it. Tekturna HCT does not cure hypertension; continue to take it even if you feel well and do not discontinue its use without your doctor’s permission.
Before taking Tekturna HCT, tell your doctor if:

What are the possible side effects of taking Tekturna HCT?
Possible Tekturna HCT side effects may include back pain, cough, diarrhea, dizziness, increased urination, hair loss, headache, heartburn, appetite loss, or stomach pain. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your doctor for assistance. If you have any severe side effects, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Severe side effects may include seizures, arrhythmia, blisters, bradycardia, continuous pain originating in the stomach area that may spread to the back, eye pain, peeling skin, swelling or redness at or around the eye, swollen or painful joints, unusual bleeding or bruising, or vision changes.
What if I forget to take a dose of Tekturna HCT?
If you forget your scheduled dose of Tekturna HCT, take it as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the regular schedule. Do not increase the dosage or change the regimen to make up for a missed dose.
How do I store Tekturna HCT?
Keep Tekturna HCT tightly sealed in its original container, out of reach of children and pets and away from high heat and humidity. Dispose of any unused or expired tablets according to the instructions of your pharmacist.
What happens if I overdose on Tekturna HCT?
If an overdose of Tekturna HCT is suspected, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, contact Emergency Services at 911. Signs of an overdose include blurred vision, dizziness, fainting, and nausea.
Warnings
Stop taking Tekturna HCT immediately if you become pregnant and contact your doctor. This medication may cause orthostatic hypotension. Tekturna HCT may make your sensitive to sunlight; avoid prolonged exposure to the sun or wear protective clothing and sunscreen when you need to be outside. Avoid consuming high levels of fat or excessive amounts of salt. Alcohol can exacerbate the side effects of this medication, so limit your alcohol consumption.
