Valsartan HCTZ Information:
What is Valsartan HCTZ?
Valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide is a combination of valsartan, an orally active angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic. Angiotensin, which is a constrictor of blood vessels, is blocked from entering receptors by valsartan. This action allows blood vessels to remain relaxed and open, encouraging proper blood flow and lower blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide increases the secretion of sodium from the body, which prevents blood vessels from becoming too rigid and damaged.
How do I take Valsartan HCTZ?
Take valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide orally with or without food. Drink extra fluids, especially water, while taking a diuretic such as hydrochlorothiazide. As a diuretic, the combination of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide may increase urine volume or cause you to urinate more often when you begin treatment. Try to take your dose before 6 pm to avoid disturbing your sleep.
Before taking Valsartan HCTZ, tell your doctor if:
- You are pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant

- You are currently taking any herbal supplements or vitamins
