Vectical Information:

What is Vectical?

Vectical is an ointment that contains a form of vitamin D called calcitriol. Vectical is used to treat patches of mild to moderate plaque psoriasis. This medication may work by slowing the rapid turnover of skin cells that occurs in incidences of plaques psoriasis. Normal skin cell turnover is every 28 to 30 days while skin cells that are affected by psoriasis are replaced every 3 to 5 days.

How do I take Vectical?

Vectical is normally used twice daily at the same times every day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Apply a thin layer of medication to the affected areas and then run the ointment in until it is no longer visible. Wash your hands after each use. Do not cover or bandage the affected areas. Allow the medication to soak in. Instructions for use may vary by patient. Always follow your doctor’s instructions.

Before taking Vectical, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Vectical.
  • You are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You are undergoing treatment with phototherapy or light therapy.
  • You have ever had kidney disease.
  • You have any sort of condition that affects your calcium levels.
  • You are taking any prescription or nonprescription drugs, vitamins, or herbal supplements, especially calcium, vitamin D, diuretics, and other topical medications.

What are the possible side effects of using Vectical?

Possible side effects from using Vectical include burning, itching, redness and peeling at the site of application. If any of these side effects are severe, or you experience an allergic reaction, report it to your doctor as soon as possible. In rare cases, this medication could cause hypercalcemia, or elevated calcium levels. Signs of hypercalcemia include unusual fatigue, mood changes, painful urination, blood in urine and constipation. If you experience any serious or unusual side effects, tell your doctor at once.

What if I forget to take a dose of Vectical?

If you forget to apply a dose of Vectical, apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next application, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular routine. Do not apply two consecutive doses to compensate for a missed one.

How do I store Vectical?

Store Vectical in the tube it comes in with the lid tightly closed. Keep this medication at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

What happens if I overdose on Vectical?

Overuse of Vectical can result in exaggerated side effects (see the side effects section) and hypercalcemia. If you think you are using an excessive amount of medication, tell your doctor and ask about changing your dosage. If someone accidentally ingests Vectical, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.

Warnings

Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and avoid sunlamps and tanning beds. Vectical can increase your skin’s sensitivity to light. Do not apply to more than a third of your body surface area. This could result in an overdose of vitamin D. Vectical is for topical use only.

Brand Names

Vectical is a branded product. The generic name is calcitriol, although the topical form of this medication is still only available under the brand name. This keeps the price of Vectical high. Take advantage of our Vectical coupons to lower the cash price.
