Tricor Information:

What is Tricor?

Tricor is a cholesterol-lowering medication called a fibrate. Fibrates work by enhancing lipolysis, the body’s natural process for breaking down lipids or fats. Tricor helps to lower blood triglyceride levels, LDL levels, Apo B and total cholesterol level. It also helps to raise HDL or good cholesterol levels.

How do I take Tricor?

Tricor should be prescribed along with a lipid-lowering diet and exercise routine. Be sure to follow your doctor’s diet and exercise recommendations while taking Tricor. It contributes substantially to the outcome of your treatment. Tricor is normally taken once per day at the same time every day. Always follow your doctor’s dosing instructions.

Before taking Tricor, tell your doctor if:

·      You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medications, including diuretics, blood thinners, beta blockers, hormonal contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, immunosuppressants, and any other cholesterol drugs.

·      You have kidney or liver disease.

·      You have gallbladder disease.

·      You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Tricor or have had reactions to any other medications.

·      You have diabetes.

·      You have or have ever had an underactive thyroid (hypothyroid).

·      You are pregnant or breastfeeding.

·      You regularly drink alcohol.

What are the possible side effects of taking Tricor?

Common Tricor drug side effects include a runny or stuffy nose. In rare cases, Tricor may cause liver problems, gallstones and muscle problems. Tell your doctor right away if you experience muscle pain, abdominal pain, severe nausea or vomiting, loss of appetite, fever, chest pain, signs of infection, yellow skin or eyes, and easily bruising or bleeding.

What if I forget to take a dose of Tricor?

If you forget to take a dose of Tricor, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your normal routine. Don’t take a double dose of Tricor to try to make up for a missed one.

How do I store Tricor?

Store Tricor at room temperature in a container that is tightly closed. Protect this medication from light and moisture and keep it out of reach of children and pets. Ask your pharmacist about the safe disposal of any unused medications.

What happens if I overdose on Tricor?

Tricor overdose may result in exaggerated side effects. If you think you or someone you know has overdosed on Tricor, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 or call 911 to get medical attention immediately.

Warnings

Because Tricor can affect the liver, alcohol intake should be limited while taking this medication. Ask your doctor about what a safe amount is for you. Your doctor may want to run tests occasionally to check your liver function. Be sure to attend all lab appointments.
