What is Caduet?
Caduet contains a combination of amlodipine and atorvastatin. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that relaxes vascular smooth muscle tissue which reduces blood pressure. It also lowers the heart’s afterload and total oxygen needs. It can also restore blood flow in coronary arteries. Atorvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering medication called a statin. It works by inhibiting cholesterol production in the liver. The Caduet drug is usually only prescribed for patients who have a combination of cardiovascular conditions.
How do I take Caduet?
Caduet is normally taken once daily at the same time every day. The size of the dose will depend on your individual requirements. Always follow your doctor’s instructions. Do not break, chew or crush Caduet tablets. Swallow these tablets whole. They may be taken with or without food.
Before taking Caduet, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Caduet.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have diabetes.
- You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription drugs, vitamins or supplements, especially other heart, cholesterol or blood pressure medications, colchicine, warfarin and cyclosporine.
- You have kidney or liver disease.
What are the possible side effects of taking Caduet?
Possible Caduet drug side effects include swelling of the legs or ankles, diarrhea, nausea, indigestion, tiredness, flushing and dizziness. If any of these side effects are severe or persistent, report them to your doctor. Serious side effects that should be reported immediately include muscle problems such as pain, stiffness, tenderness or weakness, especially with fever; jaundice, low blood pressure, abnormal muscle movements, worsening chest pain or severe abdominal pain.
What if I forget to take a dose of Caduet?
If you forget to take a dose and you remember within 12 hours, take your missed dose. If it has been longer than 12 hours, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular routine. Do not take a double dose of Caduet to make up for a missed dose.
How do I store Caduet?
Store Caduet in an airtight container at a room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep this medication out of reach of children and pets
What happens if I overdose on Caduet?
Possible signs of Caduet drug overdose include low blood pressure, accelerated heart rate and exaggerated side effects. It is possible that not all of these symptoms will occur. If you or someone you know has overdosed on Caduet, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If the victim is unconscious or not breathing, call 911.
Warnings
Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking Caduet, and limit your alcohol intake as this can increase dangerous side effects. Your doctor should periodically test your liver function.
Brand Names
