Zyvox Information:
What is Zyvox?
Zyvox contains a synthetically-derived antibiotic called linezolid which can only be used to treat infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria. These bacteria include Streptococcus and Staphylococcus. To maintain the efficacy of Zyvox and reduce the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, it should only be prescribed when the cause of the infection has been proven to be caused by susceptible bacteria.
How do I take Zyvox?
Zyvox comes in the form of an intravenous solutions, a tablet or a solution to be taken orally. Intravenous Zyvox is usually delivered in a hospital setting. The oral solution comes as a powder that needs to be reconstituted in distilled water. Your pharmacist may do this for you. The reconstituted solution is good for 21 days. Your dosage may vary depending on your infection and body weight. Follow your doctor’s or pharmacist’s instructions.
Before taking Zyvox, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to Zyvox or any of the ingredients in this medication.
- You are taking other prescription or nonprescription medications or herbal supplements. Zyvox may interact with several substances.
- You have high blood pressure or hyperthyroidism.
- You have kidney disease.

- You have carcinoid syndrome.

What are the possible side effects of taking Zyvox?
Possible Zyvox drug side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, constipation and trouble sleeping. Rare but serious side effects include fast breathing, numbness in the hands or feet, vision changes, fatigue, seizures, shaking or uncontrolled movements and mood changes. If you experience any persistent or severe side effects, tell your doctor at once.
What if I forget to take a dose of Zyvox?
If you forget to take a dose of Zyvox, take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. If it’s already almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular schedule. Do not take two consecutive doses to make up for a missed one. When you are prescribed antibiotics, it’s important to take all the medication you have prescribed to avoid relapse and bacterial antibiotic resistance. This may mean adding another day or two to your treatment if you miss doses.
How do I store Zyvox?
Store Zyvox around 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep Zyvox containers tightly closed and out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Zyvox?
Signs of Zyvox drug overdose may include tremors, seizures and lack of coordination. If you think you or someone you know has overdosed on Zyvox, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 for Zyvox patient assistance. If the victim has collapsed or is not breathing, seek medical attention at once.
