Ammonium Lactate Information:
Ammonium lactate is a combination topical medicine made of lactic acid and ammonium hydroxide. It is a moisturizer prescribed for the treatment of dry, scaly, itchy skin.
This medication is usually applied twice daily. Use it as directed on the label or with your doctor’s instructions. Shake the lotion before using it. Wash your hands before and after each application, unless using the medication to treat a condition on your hands. Don’t apply ammonium lactate to your face.
Before using ammonium lactate, tell your doctor if:
· You are allergic to ammonium lactate, glycerin, mineral oil, propylene glycol, or parabens
· You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
· You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements
Common side effects include mild dryness or skin irritation after use or bruising or discoloration of treated skin.
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dosage, wait until then to use the medicine and skip the dose you missed. Don’t take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
Store at room temperature away from any moisture or heat.
You are unlikely to overdose on topical ammonium lactate. If you feel you have, or if you or someone in your home has ingested some of this medicine, contact the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Don’t ingest this medication, as it is a topical drug meant only for the skin. Don’t use ammonium lactate on open wounds or sunburned, windburned, dry, chapped, or irritated skin. If some of the medicine gets in your eyes, nose, mouth, rectum, or vagina, rinse immediately with water.
