Cenestin Information:
What is Cenestin?
Cenestin contains a mix of nine different synthetic estrogens, and it should only be used to treat severe symptoms of menopause. Topical products and estrogen/progestin combinations should be considered first. This medication works by replacing the body’s depleted estrogen supply to relieve symptoms of menopause.
How do I take Cenestin?
Cenestin comes in the form of a tablet to be taken orally. This medication comes in a variety of dose sizes, and is normally prescribed to be taken once per day. Always follow your doctor’s dosing instructions. Your doctor should prescribe the lowest effective dose possible. Take your medication at regular intervals.
Before taking Cenestin, tell your doctor if:
You have a history of breast or other estrogen-dependent cancer.
You have or have ever had kidney or liver disease.
You are experiencing abnormal vaginal bleeding.
You have endometriosis.
You get migraine headaches.
You have gallbladder disease.
You have problems with your thyroid.
You have asthma.
You have seizures.
You have low calcium levels.
You have a clotting disorder or have ever had a stroke or blood clot.
You have high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease.
You have diabetes or pancreatic disease.
You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Cenestin medicine.
You are taking any other prescription or nonprescription drugs, vitamins or supplements, especially St. John’s wort, antidepressants, antifungals, antivirals, thyroid medications, diabetes drugs, medications that affect hormones and any others.
You smoke tobacco products.
What are the possible side effects of taking Cenestin?
Cenestin drug side effects are similar to those of some birth controls and include nausea, breast tenderness, bloating, dark spots on the skin, spotting and weight changes. If any of these side effects are severe or don’t go away, talk to your doctor. Serious side effects that you should tell your doctor about right away include yellow skin or eyes, breast lumps, abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, pain in the jaw, left arm or chest; confusion, slurred speech, swelling of the legs, ankles or feet; trouble breathing, fainting or dizziness, and weakness or numbness on one side of the body.
What if I forget to take a dose of Cenestin?
If you miss a dose of Cenestin, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it’s already near the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue on your regular schedule. Do not take consecutive doses to try to compensate for a missed one.
How do I store Cenestin?
Store Cenestin in an airtight container at a temperature between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep these pills out of reach of children and pets.
What happens if I overdose on Cenestin?
Signs of overdose on Cenestin may include nausea, vomiting and spotting or vaginal bleeding. If you think you are taking too much of this medication, talk to your doctor. If someone has accidentally ingested several pills or is experiencing severe symptoms, call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.
