What is Claritin D?

Claritin D is the brand name of a combination of the drugs loratadine and pseudoephedrine. Loratadine is classified as antihistamine; it blocks the actions of the histamines that cause allergic reactions. Pseudoephedrine is a nasal decongestant that relieves the stuffiness and congestion caused by allergies.

How do I take Claritin D?

Claritin D is administered in capsule form and is taken with water or other liquid according to the dosing instructions of your doctor or as found on the packaging. This medication must be swallowed whole; do not crush, chew, or separate the capsule.

Before taking Claritin D, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to loratadine, pseudoephedrine, or any of the ingredients in the Claritin D capsule
  • You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications

Severe side effects of Claritin D that require immediate medical attention include difficulty breathing or swallowing, hives, rash, swelling of the face, mouth, lips, tongue, or throat, wheezing, hoarseness, or swelling of the limbs or extremities.

What if I forget to take a dose of Claritin D?

If you forget to take your scheduled dose of Claritin D, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for the next regularly scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the normal routine. Do not take multiple capsules to make up for the missed dose.

How do I store Claritin D?

What happens if I overdose on Claritin D?
