Cleocin T Information:

What is Cleocin T?

Cleocin T is an antibiotic that comes in the form of a topical gel, lotion, or topical solution. It kills acne-causing bacteria in order to reduce the appearance of pimples and raised red patches of skin. The FDA has approved this medication to treat severe acne in adults and children 12 and older.

How do I use Cleocin T?

Wash and dry your hands and face before each Cleocin T application. Spread a thin layer of gel, lotion, or solution over the affected skin and wash your hands when you’re done. Use this medication only as often as your doctor has instructed you to (usually twice a day). It may take up to six weeks before you start noticing an improvement in the appearance of your skin.

Before using Cleocin T, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to clindamycin, lincomycin, or any other medications
  • You are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter drugs or supplements
  • You have a history of severe diarrhea caused by an antibiotic
  • You have any intestinal problems (e.g. ulcerative colitis)
  • You have chronic asthma
  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of using Cleocin T?

Cleocin T may cause some mild skin irritation, including dryness, redness, burning, peeling, or itching. If you experience any severe or long-lasting skin irritation, tell your doctor right away. You should stop using Cleocin T and contact your doctor immediately if you have watery or bloody diarrhea or abdominal pain, as these may be a signs of a rare but serious intestinal condition.

What if I forget to use a dose of Cleocin T?

If you miss an application, use your topical medication as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled application, skip the missed dose and stick to your regular schedule. Do not apply more of the Cleocin T gel or lotion than you normally would.

How do I store Cleocin T?

Exact storage requirements will depend on the form of medication you are using, so check the product packaging for instructions, and ask your pharmacist if you have any questions. Store all prescription drugs out of reach of any children or pets in your home.

What happens if I overdose on Cleocin T?

If your skin absorbs too much of the Cleocin T medicine, you may experience watery or bloody diarrhea. If this occurs, call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or get emergency medical help.

Warnings

Avoid using other topical products on skin that is being treated with Cleocin T unless you have cleared them with your doctor. Keep Cleocin T away from your nose, eyes, mouth, and vagina, and if you do get medication in any of these areas, rinse with water immediately. Avoid applying the medication to sunburned, broken, or broken skin. Antibiotics such as Cleocin T can sometimes cause diarrhea, but you should not use an anti-diarrhea medication unless your doctor gives you permission to do so.
