Diclofenac Potassium Information:

Diclofenac potassium is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It helps alleviate pain by reducing substances that cause inflammation in the body. It may be used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle aches, dental pain, sports injuries, and menstrual cramping.

Follow the dosing schedule your doctor has given you unless your doctor has told you to take diclofenac potassium on an as-needed basis. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Avoid lying down for at least ten minutes after each dose. If you are prone to stomach upset, you may find it beneficial to eat food with your medication.

Before taking diclofenac potassium, tell your doctor if:

·       You have ever had an allergic reaction or asthma attack after taking an NSAID

·       You are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medications, especially other NSAIDs

·       You have coronary bypass surgery scheduled or have recently had heart surgery

·       You have a history of any heart problems, blood clots, or strokes

·       You have a history of stomach problems, including bleeding or ulcers

·       You have a blood clotting problem

·       You have high blood pressure or high cholesterol

·       You have diabetes

·       You are a smoker

·       You have asthma

·       You have kidney or liver disease

·       You have water retention

·       You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

Diclofenac potassium may cause mild side effects such as heartburn, indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, headache, or dizziness. Stop taking this drug and contact your doctor if you have any rare but serious side effects, including sudden weight gain, swollen hands or feet, painful swallowing, unusual mood changes, unusual fatigue, or changes in your hearing. Get emergency medical attention in the unlikely event that you experience unexplained neck stiffness, changes in the amount of urine, dark urine, stomach or abdominal pain, persistent nausea and vomiting, and jaundice.

Take the missed dose once you remember, unless it’s almost time for your next dose. Skip the missed dose if this is the case. Don’t take extra medicine to try to catch up.

Store diclofenac potassium in a tightly-sealed container at room temperature. Bathroom storage isn’t recommended, as bright light and moisture can affect the composition of this drug. Keep this and all other prescription drugs out of reach of children and pets.

Overdosing on diclofenac potassium may cause shallow breathing, severe stomach pain, difficulty staying awake, vomit that resembles coffee grounds, or seizures. Get medical attention right away if you or someone in your home has overdosed on this medication.

Warnings

Don’t take other NSAIDs or drink alcohol while you are using diclofenac potassium. Drinking alcohol while using an NSAID increases your risk of stomach bleeding. Taking diclofenac potassium may increase your risk of a heart attack or stroke, even if you don’t have a history of heart problems or other risk factors. Diclofenac potassium can also rarely cause kidney problems, especially if you’re dehydrated. Drink plenty of water and tell your doctor if you begin urinating less than usual. Discuss your medical history with your doctor to make sure it’s safe for you to use this medication.

Brand Names

Diclofenac potassium is available under the brand names Cataflam and Cambia. Cataflam comes as a tablet and Cambia comes as a powder that is dissolved in water. Cataflam is used to treat a wide range of inflammation-related conditions, but Cambia is only used to treat migraine headaches as needed. Talk to your doctor to determine which form of this medication is right for you, and once you have a prescription, get a diclofenac potassium coupon from HelpRx.
