Grastek Information:
What is Grastek?
Grastek is a timothy grass pollen allergen extract used to treat allergies and symptoms caused by Timothy grass pollen. It is classified as a type of immunotherapy, and it is theorized that this medication works by slowing building up a patient’s tolerance to grass pollen. It will not relieve allergy symptoms that have already appeared.
How do I take Grastek?
Grastek is a sublingual medication in pill form, usually taken once a day, with treatment beginning at least twelve weeks before the onset of a grass pollen season. You will take your first dose of Grastek in the office of your healthcare provider where he or she can monitor for adverse reactions. Place the medication under your tongue and allow it to dissolve. Do not consume food or drink for at least five minutes after taking this medication as it may interfere with the amount of medication that is absorbed.
Before taking Grastek, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to Timothy grass pollen, or any of the ingredients in Grastek
- You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
- You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You have asthma or other breathing conditions or problems
- You have heart disease, hypertension, tachycardia, or arrhythmia;
- You have, or have had, liver disease
- You have, or have had, eosinophilic esophagitis
- You have a mouth infection or sores or wounds in your mouth
- You are taking allergy medicines or are receiving allergy shots
- You have ever had an allergic reaction
- You are taking lisinopril, hydrochlorothiazide, bisoprolol, enalapril, pindolol, moexipril, alfuzosin, verapamil, diltiazem, trandolapril, belladonna, ergotamine, phenobarbital, sotalol, phentolamine, or quinapril
- You are taking amlodipine, benazepril, dutasteride, fosinopril, felodipine, doxazosin, captopril, or benazepril
What are the possible side effects of taking Grastek?

What if I forget to take a dose of Grastek?
If you forget to take your Grastek medication, do so as soon as you remember and are able. However, it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the one missed and resume the normal dosing routine. Do not increase the number of doses or alter the dosing regimen to make up for one that was missed. If you miss more than one dose, contact your healthcare provider for instructions.
How do I store Grastek?
Store Grastek in its original container, out of the reach of children and away from the extremes of temperature and humidity. Dispose of any unused or expired doses according to the instructions of a pharmacist.
