Levalbuterol Information:

This medicine is a sympathomimetic bronchodilator used to treat and prevent breathing problems in patients who have asthma or certain other airway diseases. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. AN ADDITIONAL PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET is available with this medicine. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about this medicine. THIS MEDICINE IS FOR INHALATION ONLY. Do not get it in your eyes. If you get this medicine in your eyes, rinse immediately with cool tap water. DO NOT OPEN THE FOIL POUCH until you are ready to use a dose of this medicine. Once you have removed a vial from the foil pouch, use it right away. Place the remaining vials back in the pouch for storage. Do not use this medicine if it contains particles, is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged. TO USE THIS MEDICINE, twist open the top of the vial and pour the entire contents into the nebulizer reservoir. Add sterile saline solution as directed by your doctor. Gently swirl the nebulizer to mix the contents. Connect the nebulizer reservoir to the mouthpiece or face mask. Connect the nebulizer to the compressor. Sit in a comfortable, upright position. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth (or put on the face mask) and turn on the nebulizer. Breathe as calmly, deeply, and evenly as possible until no more mist is formed in the nebulizer chamber (about 5 to 15 minutes). Do not mix this medicine with other medicines in the nebulizer unless directed otherwise by your doctor. CLEAN THE NEBULIZER ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS. Failure to properly clean the nebulizer could lead to bacteria entering the medicine. This may lead to an infection. To avoid bacteria entering the medicine, do not save medicine in an open vial for use at a later time. DO NOT STOP USING THIS MEDICINE without checking with your doctor. STORE THIS MEDICINE in the protective foil pouch at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Do not use after expiration date on the container or box. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE AND YOU ARE USING IT REGULARLY, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. DO NOT use 2 doses at once.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE if you are using another short-acting sympathomimetic bronchodilator (eg, pirbuterol) or inhaled epinephrine. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking beta-blockers (eg, propranolol), digoxin, diuretics (eg, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), epinephrine, or methylxanthines (eg, theophylline). Tell your doctor if you are taking linezolid, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (eg, phenelzine), or tricyclic antidepressant (eg, amitriptyline), or if you have taken one of these medicines within the last 14 days. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including a history of heart problems (eg, fast or irregular heartbeat), blood vessel problems, high blood pressure, low blood potassium levels, seizures, diabetes, thyroid problems, kidney problems, an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma), allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Tell your doctor if you have ever had an unusual reaction to another sympathomimetic medicine (eg, pseudoephedrine), such as fast or irregular heartbeat, overexcitement, or severe trouble sleeping. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about taking this medicine.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using this medicine include diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, nervousness, runny or stuffy nose, sore or dry throat, stomach upset, tremors, or trouble sleeping. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain; decreased coordination; fast breathing; fast or irregular heartbeat; fever; muscle pain, weakness, or cramping; new or worsened cough or breathing problems (eg, shortness of breath, wheezing); pounding in the chest; severe or persistent headache or dizziness; severe or persistent nausea or vomiting; severe or unusual drowsiness; or sluggishness. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to this medicine is unlikely but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing or swallowing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, throat, or tongue; or unusual hoarseness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.
IF OVERDOSE IS SUSPECTED, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include chest pain; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; muscle pain, weakness, or cramping; seizures; severe or persistent dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, headache, lightheadedness, nausea, nervousness, or trouble sleeping; severe or unusual drowsiness; or tremor.
DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. IF YOU WILL BE USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out. CHECK WITH YOUR PHARMACIST about how to dispose of unused medicine.
