What is Myorisan?

Myorisan (isotretinoin) is a retinoid used to treat severe acne that has not responded to other medications or therapies. Retinoids help unclog pores and decrease inflammation. They also increase collagen in the skin, decreasing the likelihood of acne scarring.

How do I take Myorisan?

Your dosage of Myorisan will depend on your condition, so follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. It is best to take this oral medication with food and a full glass of water. Do not chew or break open the capsule.

Before taking Myorisan, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to this or any other medications
  • You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications or supplements
  • You have an eating disorder
  • You have a history of alcoholism
  • You have a history of depression or psychosis
  • You have any bone disorders or diseases
  • You have a metabolism disorder
  • You have asthma
  • You have hearing or vision problems
  • You have heart, kidney, or liver disease
  • You have hepatitis
  • You have pancreatitis
  • You have swelling in the brain
  • You have too much vitamin A in your body
  • You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant

What are the possible side effects of taking Myorisan?

Myorisan may cause your acne to get worse before it improves. If you haven’t seen improvements in over a month, talk to your doctor. Myorisan can also cause dry eyes, mouth, or nose; inflammation of the lips; rash; eye inflammation; or nosebleeds. If you have any side effects that are long-lasting or bothersome, let your doctor know. Call your doctor right away if you have any rare but serious side effects, including severe stomach pain, back pain, changes in vision, severe or persistent headaches, suicidal thoughts, severe diarrhea or rectal bleeding, jaundice, mood or behavior changes, muscle pain or stiffness, eye pain or tenderness, nausea, or vomiting.

What if I forget to take a dose of Myorisan?

If you forget a dose of Myorisan, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular dosing schedule.

How do I store Myorisan?

Keep Myorisan in a tightly sealed container, out of reach of children and pets. Store it at room temperature, away from bright light, heat, and moisture. If your medication has expired or you no longer need it, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of it.

What happens if I overdose on Myorisan?

If you or someone in your household has overdosed on Myorisan, you should call Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Warnings

Myorisan can cause severe birth defects when used by pregnant women. For this reason, it should only be prescribed to women who are able to bear children when no other treatments have helped their acne. If you are a woman of child-bearing age, you will need to take two pregnancy tests before starting this medication. Talk to your doctor about effective birth control methods. You should not donate blood while taking this drug or for up to 30 days after you stop using it in order to prevent a pregnant woman from receiving your blood.
