Oralair Information:

What is Oralair?

Oralair is one of the first sublingual immunotherapy medications approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use as a treatment for common allergies. This medication is not designed to treat the symptoms of allergies. It is indicated for the development of immunity to airborne allergens that stimulate an allergic response.

How do I take Oralair?

Place the tablet in your mouth with dry hands. It should rest under your tongue and dissolve completely before you swallow it. Do not swallow for at least 1 minute. Do not eat or drink anything for at least 5 minutes following ingestion of the medication. Oralair is usually taken once daily throughout allergy season. For improved efficacy, start taking this medicine at least 4 months before the allergy season begins.

Before taking Oralair, tell your doctor if:

  • You have breathing problems
  • You have heart disease
  • You have uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • You have mouth sores, swollen gums, or other wounds or irritations inside your mouth
  • You take an antidepressant or migraine headache medicine or a medicine to treat heart problems, high blood pressure, or a prostate disorder
  • You have any food or drug allergies

What are the possible side effects of taking Oralair?

Common Oralair side effects may include pain, swelling, or itchiness in the mouth or on the tongue, irritated throat, cough, sore throat, sinus pain, or itching in the ears. Severe side effects need medical attention and may include severe mouth or throat irritation, breathing problems, a feeling of choking, chest pain, and trouble swallowing.

What if I forget to take a dose of Oralair?

Take your missed dose of Oralair as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the dose you missed and restart your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time.

How do I store Oralair?

Store the drug Oralair at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit (20 and 25 degrees Celsius). Keep away from heat, moisture, and light.

What happens if I overdose on Oralair?

Contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or get to an emergency room immediately if you believe that you or someone in your home has overdosed on this drug.

Warnings

Oralair may cause a severe allergic reaction. Your doctor may insist on giving you the first dose and watching you closely to make sure you do not have a reaction. Your doctor may also prescribe epinephrine, usually as an Epi-Pen, to keep with you in case you ever have an allergic reaction to Oralair. If you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction, get help as quickly as possible.
