Temazepam is a benzodiazepine drug used to induce and maintain sleep. It may also be used to treat panic disorder, epilepsy, anxiety, and alcohol addiction. Temazepam has a sedative and hypnotic effect that slows down the central nervous system by increasing the effects of GABA neurotransmitters. The body begins to relax within 30 minutes, allowing for the individual to drift off to sleep. It is not recommended to take temazepam to sleep for more than a couple of weeks at a time. They body begins to build up a tolerance to the drug, and it will lose its effect. In some cases, individuals have reported to being tolerant to the medication after just one week. Temazepam can also be addicting and cause dependence. This is also why short-term use is recommended.
How do I take temazepam?

This medication comes in the form of a capsule to be taken by mouth with a glass of water. Take this medication only before going to bed. - You have angle-closure glaucoma, liver problems, kidney problems, myasthenia gravis, or the blood disease porphyria.
- You have lung or breathing problems such as chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or emphysema.
Do not drink alcoholic beverages while taking temazepam. Alcohol will increase the side effects of this medication. Do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking temazepam. Smoking cigarettes may decrease the effectiveness of this medication. Taking temazepam regularly may result in dependence and tolerance.
What are the possible side effects of taking temazepam?
Side effects of temazepam include extreme drowsiness, dizziness, headache, lethargy, impairment of motor skills, feeling hungover, changes in mood, nausea, and delayed response. Less common side effects include memory loss, nightmares, and hallucinations.
What if I forget to take a dose of temazepam?
If you are taking temazepam regularly and forget to take a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if only a few hours remain before you must get up, skip the dose and consider using an alternative if needed such as herbal tea, and wait until the next night to take temazepam. Never take a double dose of temazepam.

Store temazepam at room temperature, below 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep this medication tightly closed in the container it came in and out of reach of children and pets. This medication may be abused and should not be shared with anyone. It is against the law to share or sell temazepam.
What happens if I overdose on temazepam?
Signs of overdose on temazepam include mental confusion, lack of reflexes, severely impaired motor skills, high blood pressure, dizziness, decreased respiration, and inability to stay awake. Overdose on temazepam can lead to a coma and death. Incidences of coma and overdose are higher with temazepam than with other benzodiazepine drugs. If you or someone you know has overdosed on temazepam, call 911 emergency services immediately.

Taking temazepam for extended periods can result in tolerance and dependence. This medication is fatal if taken in large doses. Keep it out of reach of children and pets. Do not drink alcohol when taking temazepam.
