Utibron Information:
This medication is an inhaler used to treat the symptoms of COPD by relaxing muscles in the airways to improve breathing function. It is made up of glycopyrrolate, an anticholinergic, and indacaterol, a bronchodilator, which work together to facilitate breathing.
Utibron Neohaler is packaged in capsules with a special inhaler device. Every time you’re required to take the medicine, just load a capsule into the inhaler and click the mouthpiece shut. Push the button on the side of the device to pierce the capsule and release the powder into the inhalation chamber. It may take up to two inhalations to get the full dosage from the capsule. Utibron is not a rescue medication and cannot work quickly enough during a bronchospasm attack; use a fast-attacking inhaler if one occurs. The usual dosage is one capsule twice daily, but follow your doctor’s instructions for dosage.
Before using Utibron, tell your doctor if:
- You have any allergies
- You are taking any other medications, vitamins, or supplements
- You have heart disease
- You have high blood pressure
- You have liver or kidney disease
- You have narrow-angle glaucoma
- You have an enlarged prostate
- You have an obstruction in your bladder or other urinary issues
- You have diabetes
- You have a thyroid disorder
- You are prone to seizures
- You have a milk protein allergy
- You are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
Common side effects of this inhalation powder include stuffy nose, sore throat, or increased blood pressure, including headache, pounding in neck and ears, or nosebleeds. More serious side effects which require medical attention include breathing problems, chest problems, blurred vision or eye problems, painful or difficult urination, low potassium, high blood sugar, or your condition worsening.
If you miss a dose of your inhaler, take the dose as soon as you remember. You can skip it if it’s almost time for your next time. Don’t use any extra doses to make up for the missed dose. You should not use more than two capsules in a 24-hour period.
Store your medication at room temperature away from any moisture or heat. The capsules should remain in their blister pack until you take you them out for your dose.
If you overdose on this medication, you should seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. Overdose symptoms can include the following: blurred vision, chest pain, fast or pounding heartbeats, tremors, muscle cramps, severe headache, very little to no urination, vomiting, drowsiness, or restlessness.
While using Utibron Neohaler, do not use a second inhaled bronchodilator unless prescribed by your doctor. These include Arcapta, Dulera, Stiolto, Advair, Breo Ellipta, and others.
Utibron is the brand name for glycopyrrolate and indacaterol in inhaled form. There are currently no generic versions of this medication. Similar medications in this class include Advair, Dulera, and many others. Consult your doctor to determine which inhaler is best to help manage your COPD treatment.
