Vandazole Information:
Vandazole is a brand name form metronidazole vaginal gel, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial vaginal infections like bacterial vaginitis.
This medicine should be applied at nighttime before bed. While it’s often given as a single dose, you may need to use it for five nights in a row. Follow your doctor’s dosing instructions carefully. Do not put the gel in your mouth—it is for vaginal use only. You should gently wash your vaginal area before application. Wash your hands before and after handling the medicine tube and vaginal applicator. Insert the medicine directly into your vagina using the provided applicator. Throw away the applicator after use, as it is single-use, even if there is some medicine remaining. You may need to use a sanitary napkin during treatment, but don’t use a tampon. Also, don’t use a douche or other vaginal products while using Vandazole.
Before using Vandazole, tell your doctor if:
· You have a seizure disorder
· You have a blood cell disorder (such as anemia or low platelets)
· You have peripheral vascular disorder (such as Raynaud’s syndrome)
· You are allergic to parabens or polyethylene glycol
· You recently drank alcohol
· You took disulfiram (Antabuse) within the past 14 days
Common side effects may include vaginal itching or discharge, menstrual pain, breast pain, headache, rash, nausea, diarrhea, or cold symptoms. Rare but serious side effects include seizures and numbness, burning, pain, or tingly feeling in your hands or feet. Call you doctor if you have any new or worsening vaginal symptoms when using Vandazole.
You should apply your missed dose as soon as you remember. You may skip the missed dose if it’s close to time for your next scheduled dose. Don’t use any extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
Store Vandazole at room temperature away from sources of moisture and heat. Don’t allow the gel to freeze.
An overdose of this medication is not expected to be dangerous. However, if someone in your home has swallowed some of this medicine and is experiencing adverse effects, seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.
Warnings
Avoid drinking alcohol or consuming any foods or products that contain alcohol or propylene alcohol while taking Vandazole and for 24 hours after your last dose. Avoid wearing tight-fitting, synthetic clothing that doesn’t allow for air circulation. You should wear loose clothing made of natural fibers until the infection is healed.
