Vanoxide Hc Information:

What is Vanoxide HC?

Vanoxide HC is a combination of the antibacterial keratolytic drug benzoyl peroxide and the anti-inflammatory medication hydrocortisone in a topical solution; it is prescribed to treat acne and oily skin.

How do I take Vanoxide HC?

Vanoxide HC is applied topically. Do not use more or less than the prescribed amount. Before using, wash the affected area with a mild soap and water and gently pat dry. Vigorously shake the bottle of Vanoxide HC, dispense the prescribed dosage onto the treatment area, and gently massage it into the skin. It may take time before the effectiveness of this medication is evident, but contact your doctor if your condition worsens or does not improve after several weeks of use.

Before taking Vanoxide HC, tell your doctor if:

  • You are allergic to benzoyl peroxide, hydrocortisone or any of the ingredients in Vanoxide HC
  • You are pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or are nursing a child
  • You are taking any prescription or non-prescription medications, vitamins, or supplements, especially other topical medications
  • You have, or have had, a skin disease, measles, chicken pox, tuberculosis, a positive TB test, a skin infection, or any cuts, scrapes, or open wounds
  • You have, or have had, a circulation disorder, diabetes, an immune system disorder, or glaucoma

What are the possible side effects of taking Vanoxide HC?

Some people have reported mild Vanoxide HC side effects such as dry, cracking, or peeling skin; mild itching, burning, stinging or tingling at the application site; flushing; change in skin color; or worsening acne. If any of these conditions persist or worsen, contact your healthcare provider. Severe side effects are unlikely but require immediate medical attention. These severe side effects may include severe skin rash or blistering at the application site, wheezing, or a skin infection.

What if I forget to take a dose of Vanoxide HC?

If you forget your scheduled application of Vanoxide HC, apply it as soon as you remember and are able. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip it and resume the regular routine. Do not increase the amount applied or change the frequency to make up for one that was missed.

How do I store Vanoxide HC?

Keep Vanoxide HC tightly sealed in its original container, out of the reach of children and away from high heat and humidity. Do not allow the lotion to freeze. Dispose of any unused or expired medication according to the instructions of your pharmacist.

What happens if I overdose on Vanoxide HC?

Vanoxide HC is for external use only; if it is accidentally ingested contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222. If the individual has stopped breathing or lost consciousness, call 911.
