Avandaryl Information:
What is Avandaryl?
Avandaryl is a tablet with the combined active ingredients glimepiride and rosiglitazone. The two drugs both work to lower blood sugar levels in individuals suffering from type 2 diabetes. Those with type 2 diabetes resist the effects of the body’s natural insulin, so blood sugar must be controlled using other means, including the use of Avandaryl.
How do I take Avandaryl?
The tablet form of Avandaryl is typically administered with the first meal of the day. The medication must be taken regularly to take advantage of the effect it has on regulating blood sugar. Take the medicine according to your doctor's instructions, and do not take more or less than what is prescribed. Make sure to refill your prescription before it runs out so you always have a full supply.
Before taking Avandaryl, tell your doctor if:
- You have congestive heart failure, heart disease, or a history of heart attack or stroke
- You have an enzyme deficiency called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (G6PD)
- You have ocular problems caused by diabetes
- You have liver or kidney disease
- You have an adrenal or pituitary gland disorder
- You have any food or drug allergies
- You are taking any other prescription or over-the-counter medications
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Avandaryl?
Use of Avandaryl is associated with common side effects that include headache or cold symptoms such as a stuffy nose, sneezing, or sore throat. Talk to your doctor immediately if you experience shortness of breath, swelling, rapid weight gain, chest pain, heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or jaw, nausea, sweating, malaise, pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, weakness, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice, changes in vision, severe skin reaction, fever, sore throat, burning eyes, or skin pain with a red or purple rash that spreads and causes blistering and peeling.
What if I forget to take a dose of Avandaryl?
If you happen to miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is already nearly time for you to take the next dose, skip the dose you missed and take only the dose that is coming up soon. Never take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
How do I store Avandaryl?
Store Avandaryl in its container completely sealed. Keep it at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light. Exposure to extreme temperatures and moisture may negatively affect the ingredients.
What happens if I overdose on Avandaryl?
An overdose of Avandaryl has the potential to cause hypoglycemia, which may become life-threatening. Contact Poison Control immediately at 1-800-222-1222 if you notice extreme weakness, blurred vision, sweating, trouble speaking, tremors, stomach pain, confusion, and seizure after possible overdose.
Warnings
If you are allergic to sulfa drugs or have suffered severe, uncontrolled heart failure, you should not use Avandaryl. Do not use this medicine to treat diabetic emergencies. Avandaryl can cause or worsen congestive heart failure. If you feel unusual sickness or weakness associated with heart failure, contact your physician right away.
