Minastrin 24 Fe Information:
What is Minastrin 24 Fe?
Minastrin 24 Fe contains an estrogen and a progestin, two female hormones. This medication helps to regulate a woman’s menstrual period and is also used to prevent ovulation and pregnancy when taken on a daily basis. Each package of 28 pills contains 24 “active” capsules that contain the female hormones and 4 “reminder” capsules that do not contain hormones.
How do I take Minastrin 24 Fe?
Take one pill every day in the order outlined on the packet. A packet of 28 capsules should last exactly 4 weeks. It does not matter whether or not you take this medication with food; just make sure you are taking the capsule at the same time every day in order for it to be the most effective. Talk to your health care provider to determine which day is best for you to take your first capsule.
Before taking Minastrin 24 Fe, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to any of the ingredients in Minastrin 24 Fe or any other medications
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription medication
- You have ever had blood clots in your eyes, lungs, arms, or legs
- You have ever had a stroke, heart attack, or any other heart problems
- You have diabetes
- You have severe migraine headaches
- You have ever had breast cancer or any other cancer that is affected by female hormones
- You have ever had liver disease
- You are a smoker
- You are or suspect you may be pregnant
- You have any unexplained vaginal bleeding
What are the possible side effects of taking Minastrin 24 Fe?
Possible side effects of Minastrin 24 Fe include light bleeding between menstrual periods, breast tenderness, nausea, and headache. These side effects are typically mild and usually do not last long. Less common side effects may include decreased libido, bloating, weight gain, high blood pressure, problems wearing contact lenses, weight gain, or depression. Let your doctor know if any side effects worsen or concern you, and contact a health care professional right away if you have any thoughts of self-harm while taking this medication.
What if I forget to take a dose of Minastrin 24 Fe?
If you miss one “active” capsule, take it as soon as you remember and continue with your normal dosing schedule. This might mean taking two capsules in one day. If you miss two “active” capsules in week 1 or 2 of the pack, take two capsules the day you remember and two the next day to catch up, then resume your normal dosing schedule. If you miss two “active” capsules in week 3 or 4, throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack (if you started taking this medication on the first day of your period) or resume your normal dosing schedule until Sunday and then start a new pack (if you started taking this medication the Sunday after your period). Missing doses of your birth control can increase your risk of becoming pregnant, so use a back-up form of birth control for a full week after missing two or more pills.
How do I store Minastrin 24 Fe?
Keep your Minastrin 24 Fe packets away from high heat and moisture, and keep all prescription medications out of reach of children and pets. If you are no longer using this medication but have capsules remaining, ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of them.
What happens if I overdose on Minastrin 24 Fe?
Serious overdose symptoms from birth control pills have not been reported, but if you or someone in your household has overdosed and you are concerned, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 to find out what to do.
Warnings
Minastrin 24 Fe may increase the risk for blood clots, especially in women who smoke and are over 35. If you know you have risk factors for blood clots, talk to your doctor about whether or not you should take this medication. If you are going to undergo surgery, stop taking Minastrin 24 Fe for at least four weeks before and two weeks after the procedure. Remember that birth control pills help reduce your risk of becoming pregnant when taken as directed, but they do not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
Brand Name
Minastrin 24 Fe is a brand name birth control medication. It is the bioequivalent to Loestrin 24 Fe, another brand name drug. There is currently no generic alternative on the US market, which means the Minastrin 24 Fe price can be high. Don’t forget to claim your free Minastrin 24 Fe coupon or discount card from HelpRx in order to reduce the cost by up to 75%.
