Oleptro Information:
What Is Oleptro?
Oleptro is in the atypical antidepressant class of drugs. This long-acting medicine is believed to treat depression by balancing the levels of the natural chemical serotonin in the brain.
How do I take Oleptro?
Take Oleptro on an empty stomach shortly before going to bed, unless your doctor has given you different dosage instructions. Swallow tablets whole rather than breaking or chewing them. Continue taking this medication as directed even if you don’t notice an immediate improvement; it may take up to two weeks before you notice Oleptro working.
Before taking Oleptro, tell your doctor if:
- You are allergic to this or any other medications
- You are taking any other prescription or non-prescription drugs or supplements
- You have taken a MAO inhibitor within the past two weeks
- You have heart disease, have recently had a heart attack, or have a history of QT prolongation
- You have kidney or liver disease
- You have a blood clotting disorder
- You have a seizure disorder
- You have bipolar disorder
- You have narrow-angle glaucoma
- You have a personal or family history of substance abuse
- You have a history of suicidal thoughts
- You are breastfeeding, pregnant, or trying to become pregnant
What are the possible side effects of taking Oleptro?
Oleptro may cause dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, and blurred vision. These side effects will likely go away as your body adjusts to the medication, but let your doctor know if you have any conditions that persist or get worse. Tell your doctor if you experience any new or worsening symptoms of depression, including suicidal thoughts, while taking this medication. Call your doctor immediately if you experience eye pain or unusual vision changes, chest pain, an irregular or fast heartbeat, severe dizziness, easy bruising or bleeding, confusion, hallucinations, or an erection that lasts more than 6 hours. This is not a complete list of side effects, and you should always contact your doctor if you have any other side effects that concern you.
What if I forget to take a dose of Oleptro?
Take the missed dose immediately once you remember, unless it is almost time for you next dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule.
How do I store Oleptro?
Keep Oleptro in a tightly sealed container at room temperature. As with all prescription drugs, keep it out of reach of any children or pets in your home.
What happens if I overdose on Oleptro?
Overdosing on Oleptro is dangerous and can potentially be fatal in people who have ingested other central nervous system depressant drugs, such as alcohol. Overdose symptoms may include a fast heart rate, slow breathing, extreme drowsiness, vomiting, a prolonged erection, or seizures. If you believe that you or someone in your household has overdosed, get emergency medical attention.
Warnings
Oleptro may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts, especially in younger patients. Pay attention to any unusual mood or behavior changes and report them to your doctor. Don’t drink alcoholic beverages while taking Oleptro, since this medication can exacerbate the effects of alcohol. Be careful driving or performing any other activities that require alertness until you know how this medication affects you. Check with your doctor before using any NSAID medications concurrently with Oleptro, as you may be at an increased risk for easy bruising and bleeding.
