Qvar Information:
What is Qvar?
Qvar is an inhaled asthma medication consisting of beclometasone dipropionate. Beclometasone is a corticosteroid that is used to treat asthma when it is inhaled. It is also used to treat allergies in the form of a nasal spray and eczema, psoriasis, and skin allergies in the form of a cream or ointment. Qvar works to treat asthma by reducing inflammation in the airways. It blocks both cells and chemicals that cause inflammation such as mast cells, histamine, and leukotrienes. This reduces coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath caused by asthma. Qvar is intended to be used for prophylactic or preventative therapy to treat asthma. It is not to be used in the event of an acute asthma attack.
How do I take Qvar?
Use a Qvar coupon or a discount card from HelpRx to reduce the cost when you buy your medication. To use your Qvar inhaler, remove the plastic cap from the mouthpiece. Prime the inhaler before using by releasing to full sprays into the air away from your face and eyes. If you don’t use the inhaler for 10 days or more, you will need to prime it again. Grasp the inhaler with the mouthpiece pointed toward your mouth and place one finger on top of the canister. Exhale completely before placing the mouthpiece in your mouth without blocking it with your tongue. Press down on the canister with your finger as you inhale deeply and slowly. Then hold your breath for about 5-10 seconds. Remove the inhaler and exhale slowly. Repeat these steps if your doctor has prescribed more than one dose at a time. Rinse your mouth with water after administering the medication and spit the water in the sink. This medication is not meant to be swallowed.
Before taking Qvar, tell your doctor if:
