Tolak Information:
What is Tolak?
Tolak is a cream indicated for the treatment of actinic keratosis lesions on the face, ears, and scalp. It interferes with the synthesis of DNA and to a lesser extent inhibits the formation of RNA, both of which are essential for cell division and growth. When such growth is inhibited, new skin cells are unable to form, especially those that are growing at an unusually high rate.
How do I take Tolak?
Clean, rinse, and dry the affected area, then wait 10 minutes before applying medication. Wash hands before and immediately after applying this medicine unless the hand is part of the treatment area. Apply cream with your finger tips or a non-metal applicator and rub it gently into the affected skin. Cover the treatment area with a thin film of cream. Do not allow medication to enter irritated, peeling skin or open wounds.
Before taking Tolak, tell your doctor if:
- You are pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant
- You have allergies to food, medicine, or any other substances
- You are currently taking any herbal supplements or vitamins
- You have liver or kidney disease
- You have a dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) enzyme deficiency
What are the possible side effects of taking Tolak?
Use of the drugs in Tolak has been associated with such common side effects as dryness, peeling, or flaking of the skin, mild rash, or mild irritation at the site of application. Seek medical attention if you experience severe side effects such as hives, difficult breathing, or swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, as these may be signs of an allergic reaction.
What if I forget to take a dose of Tolak?
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the dose you missed if it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for the dose you missed.
How do I store Tolak?
Store Tolak at room temperature and keep it away from moisture and heat. Do not refrigerate or freeze this medication.
What happens if I overdose on Tolak?
Overdose of the drug Tolak may lead to undesired side effects. Call your physician or Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 if you believe that you or someone in your home has overdosed.
