Prasugrel Information:
What is Prasugrel?
Prasugrel is blood thinner medication that is used to prevent blood clots in patients who have had a recent heart attack or those who have had a procedure called a percutaneous coronary intervention.
How do I take Prasugrel?
Take prasugrel once daily with or without food. You may take prasugrel with aspirin, but you should only do so if your doctor recommends it.
Before taking prasugrel, tell your doctor if:
- You have health problems that cause bleeding
- You have had a stroke
- You have stomach ulcers
- You have liver problems
- You have kidney disease
- You have had a surgical procedure, including dental work
- You are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
- You are currently breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed your child
What are the possible side effects of taking Prasugrel?
Some of the most commonly reported side effects experienced by people taking prasugrel include: yellowing of the skin or eyes, fatigue, fever, rashes, fast heart rate, shortness of breath, headaches, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. If you have any severe or long-lasting side effects, contact your doctor to find out what to do.
What if I forget to take a dose of Prasugrel?
If you forget to take prasugrel, skip the missed dose and remember to take the next dose the following day. Do not take more prasugrel than is prescribed to you as this may cause unwanted side effects.
How do I store Prasugrel?
Keep your prasugrel medication locked away in a cabinet at a temperature of around 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep your medicine away from moisture and heat as this may cause the tablets to disintegrate.
What happens if I overdose on Prasugrel?
An overdose of prasugrel may cause difficulty breathing, slurred speech, and blurry vision. Call 911 or Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) if you or someone you know overdoses on prasugrel.
Warnings
The risk for bleeding while taking prasugrel increases in people who have had a recent head injury or stomach ulcers, or who weigh under 130 pounds. Tell your doctor if you are taking other medications such as warfarin or other medication that treat blood clots.
Brand Names
Prasugrel is a generic version of brand name medication called Effient. Generics are generally less expensive than branded drugs, and contain the same active ingredients that treat the condition indicated. Make sure you pay the lowest price possible for prasugrel with a coupon from HelpRx.
